Although it is tempting to feel discouraged after the election, there is a lot to motivate us to get back to work. Roy Cooper’s winning margin is continuing to grow. We were successful in electing Judge Micheal Morgan to the NC Supreme Court, we won the important Council of State positions: Attorney General, Josh Stein, Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall, Auditor, Beth Wood. Remember: What we fought for before the election is still worth fighting for! North Carolina deserves an economy that works for all. Our children deserve a quality education. Our clean air and water must be protected. Democrats, especially Governor-Elect Roy Cooper get that!
Last week, I gathered with progressive voices in Raleigh, including my dear friends with the NC Justice Center, Lillian’s List, Advocates for Justice, and the League of Women Voters. We can meet the challenges before us, but we have to do it together.
Many of you have asked me how you can help.
Lend your voice – Contact your U.S. Congressman and U.S. Senators to let them know what you’re thinking
Lend your ear – help me find opportunities to reach out, especially to those who might not think they are being heard. I know I can do a better job and I’m determined to make outreach a priority.
Support the work – There are so many great organizations that stand up for the things we believe in: The NC Justice Center, The Sierra Club, Public Schools First NC, The ACLU of North Carolina, Lillian’s List, Equality NC to name a few. Subscribe to their newsletters, and if you have anything to give, these are all GREAT organizations.
