HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The League of Women Voters of Henderson County (LWVHC) hosted a panel Saturday on redistricting, as the battle continues in North Carolina.
Panelists explained the various legislation currently circulating in the state house and the senate. Republican Representative Chuck McGrady and Democratic Senator Terry Van Duyn were guest speakers.
Each is a sponsors of some of those bills. They say now is the time for lawmakers to do right by the voters.
“Both (Rep. McGrady) and I agree it is past time to get something done,” Van Duyn said. “Voters should pick their elected officials, not elected officials picking their voters”
In late July, Democrats and the group Common Cause filed a lawsuit for the district maps to be redrawn. That court ruling is expected in September.
The event was free and open to the public.
