Here are the three upcoming Senate pages that Sen. Terry Van Duyn is sponsoring:
Nate Worley is a sophomore at Clyde Erwin High School. Some of his interests in both school and in the community are student government, model united nations and agriculture. He believes that it is essential that people live in a state where parents are not afraid to send their children to public schools and that the state pays teachers fairly for their work. He also wants to make sure that farmers in North Carolina are “never overtaxed and overregulated into bankruptcy, and that the food system is the cleanest and safest in the world.”
Gabriela Jones is sophomore at Asheville High School. Some of her interests in school are volleyball, Spanish club, and dance. She wants to serve as a page because she sees it an interesting learning opportunity and an excellent way to see how the North Carolina government works. She also believes that her experience as a page will help her see ways to better serve her community back home and make the state stronger.
Lucas Heilig is a junior at the School of Inquiry and Life Sciences in Asheville. He is interested in public speaking, civics, and volunteers at the Church of the Advocate. He wants to serve as a page so he can better understand his state senator’s duties and roles. He also has a strong desire to learn more about the beliefs and branches of the government, and this experience will give him a first-hand experience in the workings of the legislative branch.
